Examining the Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery

With LASIK becoming ever more popular in the U.S. every year, the cost of LASIK eye surgery has been coming down and is now at levels where many more people can afford it. Even though insurance won’t cover the cost of LASIK eye surgery it’s not stopping people from having it done to fix their vision problems.

The cost of LASIK eye surgery is determined by several factors together. While you might think that the surgeon’s fees are the bulk of the cost, the truth is that the equipment is actually the highest cost involved in the LASIK surgery technique. Of course the surgeon’s fees weigh pretty heavily into the cost as well. Statistics also show that the region of the U.S. will affect the cost as well. East and west coast cities seem to be the most expensive places to have LASIK surgery performed. Two other things that will affect the price of the LASIK procedure are the severity of your eye problems and the use of more specialized tools and software.

All of these things put together means that the typical cost of LASIK eye surgery will be around $1500 per eye. Of course that price can vary widely and you may have prices as low as $800 and as high as $2500. Unfortunately these costs must almost always be paid by the patient as most insurance companies consider LASIK surgery to be elective surgery. Still, people are having LASIK surgery in record numbers.

You can find LASIK surgery information easily online and can get more detailed information be scheduling a consultation with a LASIK clinic. Watch out for advertisements you might see for extremely cheap LASIK as many times these prices will not include important parts of the LASIK procedure designed to make it safer and more effective. If you see LASIK on sale you should make sure to investigate and find out exactly what is covered by the price and what will end up costing you extra.

If you think that LASIK will benefit you, but you can’t afford the full cost of LASIK eye surgery you’ll be glad to know that most eye surgery clinics offer financing for LASIK. This helps to make LASIK more accessible to many people. If you have poor vision you should definitely consider LASIK eye surgery, regardless of the cost. Everyone that I’ve spoken with who have had LASIK surgery do not regret it one bit and would do it over again.

New Lasik Surgery Technique

The new lasik surgery treatments promise better vision, less complications and laser correction options for a wider variety of vision problems. This will mean more people will be able to take advantage of laser vision correction and will be able to ditch their glasses or contact lenses.

Current lasik eye surgery techniques allow for corrections of nearsightedness, far sightedness and astigmatisms, but until recently there has been no help for patients with severe vision problems or differences in the thickness and shape of the cornea because of risky complications. Some of the reported side effects include blurry vision, halo’s and busts of blinding light at night and painfully dry eyes.

The new lasik vision correction allows lasik surgeons to scan and measure the shape and thickness of the eye in more detail before actually firing with the laser. This means lasik surgeons can now have a more accurate assessment of the results of lasik surgery and gives them better treatment options.

In clinical trials patients have found almost perfect levels of vision returning as quickly as one month after surgery. Lasik patients were able to see in more detail more quickly after their lasik surgery. Some patients had their vision restored to perfect levels within one month of their surgery. Previously it could take up to 6 months for vision to be returned to normal, so this is a huge improvement over past lasik surgery results.

New lasik surgery begins with and image of the patients iris being captured on lasik software. Then, iris recognition technology is used to make a ‘map’ of the patients iris to show where any minute changes or discrepancies in the iris might affect the lasik surgery. This means the lasik surgeon can be more precise with the adjustments being made and they can plan in advance for any possible complications they might encounter during the surgery.

The new lasik technology means that surgery can be performed where the natural shape of the cornea is left intact, less tissue can be removed and even night vision can be correct with the new lasik surgery techniques. In addition, the new lasik surgery leaves the patient more comfortable since during the surgery the laser only fires for 20 seconds as opposed to the old method where the laser was fired for 60 seconds. The new lasik technique has been in trials now for over a year and all indications point to improvements in lasik surgery. In a very short time we could see all types of lasik patients benefiting from the new lasik technology.
