New Lasik Surgery Technique

The new lasik surgery treatments promise better vision, less complications and laser correction options for a wider variety of vision problems. This will mean more people will be able to take advantage of laser vision correction and will be able to ditch their glasses or contact lenses.

Current lasik eye surgery techniques allow for corrections of nearsightedness, far sightedness and astigmatisms, but until recently there has been no help for patients with severe vision problems or differences in the thickness and shape of the cornea because of risky complications. Some of the reported side effects include blurry vision, halo’s and busts of blinding light at night and painfully dry eyes.

The new lasik vision correction allows lasik surgeons to scan and measure the shape and thickness of the eye in more detail before actually firing with the laser. This means lasik surgeons can now have a more accurate assessment of the results of lasik surgery and gives them better treatment options.

In clinical trials patients have found almost perfect levels of vision returning as quickly as one month after surgery. Lasik patients were able to see in more detail more quickly after their lasik surgery. Some patients had their vision restored to perfect levels within one month of their surgery. Previously it could take up to 6 months for vision to be returned to normal, so this is a huge improvement over past lasik surgery results.

New lasik surgery begins with and image of the patients iris being captured on lasik software. Then, iris recognition technology is used to make a ‘map’ of the patients iris to show where any minute changes or discrepancies in the iris might affect the lasik surgery. This means the lasik surgeon can be more precise with the adjustments being made and they can plan in advance for any possible complications they might encounter during the surgery.

The new lasik technology means that surgery can be performed where the natural shape of the cornea is left intact, less tissue can be removed and even night vision can be correct with the new lasik surgery techniques. In addition, the new lasik surgery leaves the patient more comfortable since during the surgery the laser only fires for 20 seconds as opposed to the old method where the laser was fired for 60 seconds. The new lasik technique has been in trials now for over a year and all indications point to improvements in lasik surgery. In a very short time we could see all types of lasik patients benefiting from the new lasik technology.
